Case Study: Goebel North America / Richard Simmons

Goebel North America / Richard Simmons

Goebel of North America (formerly Hummelwerk), a wholly owned distributor of fine porcelain collectible M.I. Hummel figures, was established in the United States in 1968. In 2000, Goebel became the exclusive distributor of Collections of the Masters™ by Richard Simmons, an assortment of extraordinary dolls reproduced from the popular entertainer‘s personal collection. Nominated for several awards, the collection includes work from such notable doll artists as Annie Wahl, Cynthia Malbon, Rosemary Volpi and more.

Goebel approached Cameo Guild Incorporated to negotiate the contract with Richard Simmons in 1999. Even though they had their own in-house product development group, Goebel management realized that a project of this scale could cripple their existing staff – already busy with their core business.

Cameo Guild Incorporated was able to secure a contract with Richard Simmons, develop and manage the product line, and source and direct manufacturing in China. Cameo collaborated closely with QVC, the home shopping network, to assure on-time shipments to strategic distribution points throughout the United States.

Outsourced to Cameo Guild Incorporated, the Goebel/Richard Simmons doll program grew into a $25 million business.
